A Brand New Look for Blackness Vets

Dundee has been trusting the city’s Blackness Veterinary Surgery to look after their much-loved pets since the 19th century. Now the renowned practice has moved to brand spanking new premises on Brown Street to make sure they can continue to offer the best care and services to clients, old and new.

The new premises boast a whole host of new facilities including a specially designed waiting room to help reduce stress for pets visiting. There’s also four consultation rooms, a dedicated dental suite, two new operating theatres, an x-ray room and better parking facilities. If you have a poorly pet, Blackness Vets’ new premises are fully equipped to help.

All the existing staff have moved to the new premises to ensure continuity of care and Blackness Vets are likely to be looking for new staff in the near future. The team are planning an open day in the summer so clients can have a good look round and see what facilities are on offer for their pets.

Blackness Vets had a ribbon ceremony last week where some long term clients were invited to come along and cut the ribbon to declare the new premises open.

Blackness are the descendants of a long line of vets to look after pets in the Dundee area. It all began with Spruell’s Veterinary Surgery in Ward Road in the 19th century. Margaret Cameron bought the practice in the 1950s and in 1967 she moved the practice to Brook Street. That was more than 50 years ago! Barbara Barnard joined the practice in 1981 and took over as practice principal in 1994. She is now the clinical director. They outgrew the building at Brook Street and so the search began for new premises, ending at the lovely new building on Brown Street.

Barbara said:

‘We’ve been searching for a new location for a few years now with our client’s comments in mind. Our new surgery has been fully converted throughout to allow us to provide the excellent standard of care that people have come to expect from Blackness Vets.’
