Bath Veterinary Groups Elisabetta Mancinelli is 1st Vet in Europe to become European Specialist in Zoological Medicine

Bath Veterinary Groups Elisabetta Mancinelli is 1st Vet in Europe to become European Specialist in Zoological Medicine (Small Mammal).

Elisabetta Mancinelli, one of Bath Veterinary Referrals seven referral vets, has not only achieved RCVS Specialist status in her field of Zoological Medicine, but is also the first vet in Europe to embark on and pass by examination, the European Diploma in Zoological Medicine with specialty in Small Mammal.
Qualifying in Italy in 2002, Elisabetta has always had a passion for exotic species and never held a position where she did not treat them. This led her to her relocate to the UK to pursue further studies in exotics nine years ago, the last nine months of which have been at Bath Veterinary Referrals, Rosemary Lodge Veterinary Hospital – part of Independent Vetcare Ltd.

Whilst small mammals will always be her first love, she is delighted by the wide range of exotic species that are referred to her daily and often from much further afield than Bath itself. Exotics species treated at Bath Veterinary Referrals comprise of all types of small mammals, avians of all sizes including birds of prey, all forms of reptiles except poisonous snakes, as well as the odd arachnid.

The hospital as you would expect has state-of-the-art facilities such as MRI and CT scanners, laser therapy, endoscopy and hydrotherapy suites on site. Alex Gough, Head of Internal Medicine for Bath Veterinary Referrals says "This is a fantastic achievement for Elisabetta and one we are all very proud of. We've long been one of the busiest referral centres in the South West and we are always striving to improve our referral offering. Since joining the team her exotic expertise’s has added another string to our bow and becoming a Specialist in Zoological Medicine further enhances this.”

Elisabetta has now reached the highest qualification possible, however her enthusiasm for what she does remains the same "It's a privilege to be able to live your passion and I look forward to continuing to treat chinchillas, pythons, macaws and everything in between, at Bath for many years to come” she told us.
As a regular contributor to industry press and lecturer both in the UK and abroad, fellow vets and vet nurses will be delighted to hear that they can continue to enjoy and learn from the cases seen by Elisabetta and that calls for advice are always be welcomed by her.

Elisabetta can be contacted at Bath Veterinary Referrals, Rosemary Lodge Hospital on 01225 832521 or visit www.facebook.com/bathvetreferralexo
