Independent Vetcare Invests in Nurses from Overseas

Staying true to their “Belief in people” principal, IVC are proactively investing in training for their overseas nurses whose qualifications are not recognised by the RCVS, therefore preventing them from working as an RVN in UK practices.

As part of the group’s Nurse Development Programme, available to nurses at all IVC practices, IVC have now launched an Overseas Nurse Programme to combat this.

Working in partnership with Plumpton College in East Sussex, the course offers intensive training to upskill qualifying overseas nurses, supporting them in gaining their Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) status with the RCVS in the UK.

“We recognise the value, knowledge and skills in our nurses who have already undergone a veterinary nurse qualification in another country. The IVC Overseas Nurse Programme is therefore something we are very passionate about, enabling us to offer these key members of our practice teams the opportunity to develop existing skills, gain new ones and acquire additional knowledge through registration.” Jen Clarke BSc(Hons) RVN CertVNECC, IVC Nurse Development Manager.

Avoiding the lengthy PSA (Period of Supervised Adaptation) process and need for a Clinical Coach, the programme is designed to reduce the time it takes to enter the register. Delivered with their partners at Plumpton College, the programme consists of online learning, a two-week residential course with practical & theory training, one-to-one tuition, mock examinations and concludes with the RCVS Practical OSCE examinations.

Upon completion of the programme and registration with the RCVS, these newly registered Veterinary Nurses can then join the IVC Nurse Academy specifically for newly registered RVNs to continue receiving support and develop the essential skills, knowledge & professionalism required as an RVN in practice.

IVC say they are delighted to work with their valued partners at Plumpton to welcome overseas nurses to Independent Vetcare practices and they remain committed to their aim of being the career choice for Veterinary Nurses.
