New Purpose Built Ward Building at SCVS

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is excited to announce the opening of their new purpose built wards. SCVS was established 10 years ago this year and has grown from just two disciplines, to become a large multidisciplinary referral centre staffed by more than 30 veterinary surgeons.

This rapid expansion has meant the current facilities have been stretched to their limit, making the need for expansion imperative. The first stage of this has been to construct new purpose built wards with accommodation for over 60 dogs and 12 cats. The wards are staffed round-the-clock by our skilled and experienced nursing staff and veterinary interns to ensure our patients receive the best possible care.

The new wards are positioned around a large central nurses’ station, ensuring that there is good visibility of the patients throughout the ward area. The building incorporates separate dog and cat wards, a cat treatment room, dedicated ICU, preparation area and a visitors’ room for pet owners. All kennels in the ward have been built with patient comfort and safety in mind. Toughened safety glass has been utilised throughout the wards to improve visibility of patients and reduce infection risk.

The next phase of the expansion will be a purpose built surgery building with 5 state-of-the-art theatres, followed by an imaging suite housing our 1.5 tesla MRI and Siemens 64 slice CT scanner.
