Femke's Story

I have wanted to live in the Highlands even before I wanted to be a vet, so getting the offer to join Kessock Equine Vets was a dream come true for me and the IVC Graduate Academy sounded good straight away as you get an honest salary, a lot of support and plenty of learning opportunities.
I was really hoping for good support from my colleagues in practice, as it can be quite scary going out on your own when you just start. This I have found more than I even hoped for. I get plenty of chances to learn too, which is also very important, especially in your first job because you are just at the very start of lifelong learning.

Being part of the IVC Graduate Academy and a group of people in the same position has been amazing! The group is very supportive and you get to make friends from all over the UK. Of course we have a lot of fun as well .
As for the CPD events, they are high standard and very well organized. So far, I have liked the surgical day the most as it was very practical and I learnt quite a few new things regarding basic suturing. However, I am very much looking forward to our last CPD of the first year programme, which is on ultrasound scanning techniques. This is something you don’t get to do on a daily basis in equine practice, so it will be good refreshing my memory.
