Henny's story

For my first job as a qualified vet I was looking for somewhere that would encourage me to develop my own individual style as a clinician whilst also ensuring I would receive support when I needed it. I also wanted to be in a practice where I knew I could keep up to date with the most recent developments in veterinary medicine. I applied to the Independent Vetcare Graduate Academy because they took an interest in me as an individual. They listened carefully to what I was hoping for and were able to place me at the practice that I really wanted to work at.

My favourite part of my first year in practice has definitely been developing professional relationships with clients, earning their trust and confidence and being able to chat with them outside the framework of a "normal" veterinary consult!

Going into the second year of the IVC Grad Academy I am most looking forward to the neurology CPD as part of the year 2 programme. It is a subject that I have already found to present itself never quite as you expect and I know from my year 1 experience of the CPD programme that we will get practical knowledge from the specialists at this event, hear how they work up their cases, and gain lots of tips to take back to first opinion practice and put to good use.
